Julie Glass Art
Wood Collage Series
Julie Glass is interested in the intersection of materials, processes, visuals, emotions and concepts. For her wood collage works she creates many diverse pieces by painting, carving, and cutting up reclaimed wood, adding handwritten text to express her ideas, and reassembling them into a unified whole. She uses reclaimed wood because it has no illusions of grandeur for itself and is willing to go along with almost any manipulation.
The first sculptures in this series were shown in Brazen Spirit, with Sherry Tamburo in Coolspace at ArtSpace in 2022. Later work has been shown at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Aquarium Gallery, and Good Children Gallery in New Orleans, the Cary Saurage Arts Center in Baton Rouge, the Alexandria Museum of Art, and the Masur Museum of Art in Monroe, Louisiana.
